As your MLA and Chair of the Alberta Water Advisory Committee, I'm excited to share a significant development in our ongoing efforts to ensure sustainable water management for our region. Our government has recently committed nearly $4 million to an ambitious groundwater mapping initiative in Southern Alberta, a project that will be crucial for our community's future.

Water is the lifeblood of our region. From our farming families to our growing urban centers, access to reliable water sources is essential for our prosperity. As our communities continue to expand and evolve, the demand for water has increased substantially, particularly here in Southern Alberta. This reality has made it crucial for us to gain a deeper understanding of our groundwater resources.

The Southern Alberta Groundwater Evaluation study represents a major step forward in water resource management. This comprehensive initiative will employ cutting-edge technology to create detailed hydrogeological mapping and 3D modeling of our aquifers in the South Saskatchewan River and Milk River basins. These sophisticated models will help us visualize and better understand the intricate network of groundwater resources beneath our feet.

What makes this study particularly valuable is its holistic approach. Beyond just mapping water locations, we'll be able to better understand how increased groundwater usage might affect our surface water and connected ecosystems. This knowledge is crucial for making informed decisions that balance the needs of our communities, businesses, agricultural sector, and environment.

I'm particularly proud that this initiative aligns with our committee's commitment to evidence-based water management. Once completed, these groundwater maps and data will be made available online, ensuring transparency and providing valuable information to stakeholders across our region.

As your representative and someone deeply concerned with water management policy, I understand that every drop counts. This mapping initiative will help us maximize the efficient use of our water resources, supporting our farmers, ranchers, businesses, and families while protecting our natural environment for future generations.

Water security is not just about today's needs – it's about ensuring our children and grandchildren have access to this vital resource. Through projects like this groundwater mapping initiative, we're taking proactive steps to understand, protect, and sustainably manage our water resources.

I welcome your thoughts and questions about this important project. As always, my office is here to serve you and provide more information about how this initiative will benefit our community.

Together, we're building a more water-secure future for Southern Alberta.
